WEBDESK: Top rated Indian journalist Karan Thapar vows to keep reporting truth after being blocked in India. Karan Thapar’s social media accounts have been blocked in India following his interview with defense analyst Pravin Sawhney. The channel ‘The wire‘ issued a statement saying,” we will not be deterred from providing truthful and accurate news to all our readers.”
The censorship stems from a controversial statement made by Sawhney, who confirmed in the interview that Pakistan had downed Rafale jets, a claim that led to the blocking of The Wire YouTube channel.
In the interview, Karan Thapar asked Pravin Sawhney, “Why was your 11-minute video on Operation Sindoor blocked by the government?” To this, Sawhney replied, “There are two reasons that crossed my mind. First, Operation Sindoor is at a critical stage, and when you don’t want sensible voices to be heard, there’s something wrong. The second reason that came to mind is that the Modi government wants to be the leader, at least in the global South Asian region.”
“I was both disappointed and in disbelief.” he added
Karan Thapar further questioned, “We have a PM who says we are the mother of democracy. Aren’t we undermining all of that when your 11-minute video gets blocked?” To which Pravin Sawhney responded, “I agree with you. This is precisely what I was thinking.”
“We are a democracy. Let us be a democracy. Let us behave like a democracy.” Pravin Sawhney added
Pravin Sawhney clearly said again, “One that has been downed is a Rafale, and the reason why I am saying this is according to reports that came, there is a senior French intelligence officer who has confirmed that one Rafale has been lost.”
The Wire’ released a statement 9 May, saying that the website has been blocked by Internet service providers across the country. The statement by ‘The Wire’ said the service providers cited orders from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the IT Act, 2000.
The website said in the statement that they stand against the ‘censorship’ and that they are taking necessary steps to challenge the move.
