LAHORE: As temperatures continue to rise across the province, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a Punjab heatwave alert 2025, warning of extreme weather conditions throughout April.

The PDMA reports that temperatures in Central and South Punjab are expected to remain 4 to 7°C above normal, with the intense heat likely to persist. Cities in the southern plains are especially vulnerable to the heatwave.

Senior Minister of Punjab, Marriyum Aurangzeb, has urged citizens to take immediate precautions and advised the public to avoid going outdoors unnecessarily, especially during peak heat hours between 11 AM and 4 PM.

Children, the elderly, and outdoor workers are especially at risk. As part of the heatwave advisory Punjab schools guidelines, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also suggested that school hours be changed. .

Laborers work is advised in shaded areas and avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day. Educational institutions have also been asked to instruct students on how to protect themselves during the Punjab heatwave alert 2025 and to minimize assembly hours.

To manage potential health emergencies, the Health Department has been directed to set up heatstroke desks at hospitals across the province. Medical staff are on high alert.

Adding to the challenges, the PDMA issued another advisory for April 16 to April 20, warning of dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall across many districts, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Gujrat, Lahore, and Faisalabad. While these storms may provide temporary relief, the PDMA warns that temperatures will spike again towards the end of April.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that all relevant government departments have been instructed to remain vigilant. These include Health, Education, Irrigation, Local Government, and Civil Defense departments.

The public is advised to remain indoors during storms, avoid open areas, and follow safety guidelines.
