WEBDESK: In a strong criticism from within India, senior defence analyst Pravin Sawhney has said that India’s defence and foreign policies have not just failed, but completely collapsed over the last 11 years. His remarks have added to growing internal discontent over the Modi government’s handling of national security and diplomacy.

He blamed the downfall partly on India’s mainstream media, which he described as “saffronised, illiterate, stupid, and aggrandising.” Naming Republic TV and NDTV, he said these channels are leading the charge in spreading false narratives and acting against India’s interests.

Pravin Sawhney made it clear that he was not working for any foreign power, and said,”I am not a mole of Pakistan, China or any nation. I am a man who wants my nation to prosper!”

In another tweet, Sawhney referred to a statement made by Captain Shiv Kumar, India’s Naval Attaché in Indonesia, about the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) role in Operation Sindoor. Sawhney called the statement “interesting” and said it needs to be presented in the correct and broader perspective. He announced he would release a video in Hindi on the matter.

The statement has gained attention, especially after previous reports that Pakistani Air Force shot down Indian fighter jets on 7 May, a fact now quietly acknowledged by Indian officials including Captain Shiv Kumarn though the exact number of downed aircraft was not disclosed.

Growing Pressure on Modi Govt

Sawhney’s comments come as a blow to the Modi led BJP government, already facing backlash from within. India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has also been criticised following the 7 May incident. Many including Pravin Sawhney himself have demanded his resignation.

With Captain Shiv Kumar’s remarks now public, India’s opposition party Congress has renewed its attack on the Modi government, questioning its cover-up attempts and continued silence on military failures.
