In an embarrassing development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday made a blunder in the AUS vs ENG 2025 Champions Trophy match when Indian national anthem was played instead of Australian anthem at Gaddafi Stadium.
It merits a mention that the Indian anthem was played not more than two seconds until it was stopped while Australian anthem began. However, the mix-up left the crowd at Gaddafi stadium stunned with many making huge noise at the mistake during AUS vs ENG match.
The faux pas was caught in the live transmission and expectedly, it has become a huge talking point on X (formerly Twitter) with many taking a dig at organisers of the AUS vs ENG match.
Social media users on AUS vs ENG:
One X user wrote: “Today In #ENGvsAUS Game In CT 2025 In Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Indian National Anthem[Jana Gana Mana ..] Was Played Instead Of Australian National Anthem.” While another user wrote: “Gaddafi Stadium Lahore main, Eng vs Aus ke match main sound wale ne Indian national anthem baja diya 🤣🤣🤣.”
X user Saj Sadiq wrote: “So you had one job – to play the correct national anthems. But you play the Indian National anthem instead of the Australian National anthem. How embarrassing #CT25 #AUSvENG”
One social media user, in a hilarious post, wrote: “Pakistan’s hospitality is truly next level – they played the Indian National Anthem instead of Australia’s! A world-class masterclass in hosting for #ChampionsTrophy2025. Bravo! 👏😂”
Azaad Digital’s reporter Husnain Chaudhary stated: “Apart from Indian anthem, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh’s anthems were also played. It happened only for a few seconds.”
This year’s Champions Trophy series is not without its blunders as earlier this week the International Cricket Council (ICC) admitted that Pakistan’s name was missing from the “Champions Trophy 2025” logo during the live broadcast of India vs Bangladesh match in Dubai.
Cricket viewers quickly noticed the difference; however, ICC stated that it was due to a technical error. The ICC spokesperson further clarified that Pakistan’s name remained visible in the match clips shared on social media accounts and the error was only during live broadcast.
