WEBDESK: The India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy game started off with New Zealand winning the toss and choosing to field first. As a result, India set them a target of 250 runs after their innings had ended.
While the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finalists have been locked in, who each team will face depends on the outcome of the final Group A fixture in Dubai.
India staged a late comeback against New Zealand as the two sides faced off to decide which team will finish top of Group A at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
They reached 249/9 in their 50 overs. Matt Henry took a 5-wicket haul.
The standout wicket of the India vs New Zealand game was the third wicket (Virat Kohli) when Glenn Phillips took another stunning catch to dismiss the in-form batsman.
Both openers went in the first six overs, first Shubman Gill, trapped lbw by Matt Henry, then Rohit Sharma, caught by Will Young from Kyle Jamieson.
Then Rohit’s removal in the India vs New Zealand game left them on 30/3 in the seventh over.
Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer put together a 98-run partnership off 136 balls for the fourth wicket before another great catch – this time from Kane Williamson – broke it.
Shreyas Iyer’s 79 was the highest score of the innings. KL Rahul after making 23 runs was stumped by Tom Latham off of captain Mitchell Santner’s delivery.
The next wicket to fall was courtesy of another terrific Williamson catch, diving to his left to take Ravindra Jadeja (16) one-handed from the bowling of Henry.
Matt Henry quickly wrapped up the innings in his final over when he took two wickets – Hardik Pandya (45) and Muhammad Shami (5).
The Black Caps managed to restrict India’s run flow throughout the India vs New Zealand first innings and will be happy coming in to bat for next innings.
