WEB DESK: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. While this claim is making rounds on social media, there is no official confirmation from the Nobel Committee.
The claim, shared through PTI’s official social media accounts, is based on a video released by members of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), reportedly affiliated with Norway’s minor political party Partiet Sentrum. In the video, a representative states that the party, in collaboration with an unnamed alliance, has nominated Khan for the peace prize.
No other information was given about how Imran Khan Nobel Prize nomination happened or whether or not the body nominating has a legitimate reason for doing so. Partiet Sentrum is a minor political party in Norway that gained merely 0.2 per cent of the 2021 elections and does not have any seat in the country’s national parliament.
The Imran Khan Nobel Prizee nomination deadline for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize closed on January 31, as per the Nobel Committee’s official website. The committee has not issued a public confirmation of receiving a nomination for Khan, casting suspicions regarding the timing and authenticity of the assertion.
PTI has been behind similar global award promotion efforts in the past. In August 2024, the party had started a campaign surrounding Khan’s application to be the Chancellor of Oxford University. His name was, however, not included on the university’s final shortlist of 38 candidates released last October. A UK-based law firm Matrix Chambers said that Khan was barred by a previous conviction.
