HYDERABAD: The water shortage in Hyderabad has become severe, making life very difficult for many residents. People in areas like Heerabad, Shahi Bazaar, Khai Road, Afandi Town, Tando Mir Mahmood, Unit No. 12, and Kohsar are struggling due to little or no water supply.
Some areas have not received regular water for four days. Many residents are forced to buy expensive water from private suppliers. Others are using underground borehole water, which may not be safe for drinking.
Even when water does come through the pipes, it is often dirty and smells bad. People in Shahi Bazaar and Sherissh Nagar in Qasimabad say the water is so muddy they cannot use it. A local resident, Ashiq, said that after waiting four days, the water in his area was full of debris and mud.
The worst-hit areas are from Khuda Hafiz Chowk to Kohsar. Residents near Khuda Hafiz Chowk used to get water from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) pumping station. But now, WASA has stopped people from taking water from there, and the area’s filtration plant is no longer working because there is not enough water.
Many people believe corruption is making the crisis worse. Some residents say WASA officials are giving illegal water connections in exchange for money. Reports suggest that pipes are being illegally connected to the main water lines at night, reducing the supply for others.
People in Kohsar have no choice but to buy water from expensive tanker services. In protest, residents of Kohsar and Unit No. 12 have planned a demonstration at Khuda Hafiz Chowk. They are demanding that the government fix the water supply problem and stop illegal water connections. Many others from affected areas are also joining the protest.
WASA says it is taking action against illegal connections and unpaid water bills. However, citizens claim that some officials are secretly allowing illegal connections at night. People are calling for urgent action from the authorities to solve the water crisis before it gets even worse.
