RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is set to host two consecutive Champions Trophy 2025 matches on February 24, and February 25 Monday and Tuesday respectively.

The residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are wondering whether there will be a holiday on February 24 and 25. Students and people working in both public and private offices are taking to social media to ask about the expected holiday.

The holiday concern is mainly because traffic is expected to be disrupted due to the security situation in the twin cities. The Islamabad police will ensure full security for the international teams during their commute between the hotel and the stadium.

Champions Trophy 2025 Rawalpindi Stadium Schedule

The first match between Bangladesh and New Zealand on February 24 while Australia versus South Africa match would take place on February 25 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The Rawalpindi stadium will host these two significant matches drawing thousands of cricket fans from around the country. However, if history is to be taken into account, we can expect major roads’ blockades along with heavy security arrangements in the twin cities causing potential disruption to public.

In recent times, Islamabad has earned an unfortunate repute of having massive blockades due to security reasons causing huge obstacles for the citizens. Similarly, international teams coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy pose a significant security challenge for the authorities. Hence, strict security protocols are to be expected.

However, much to the disappointment of twin cities’ citizens, the government has yet not announced any public holidays in Rawalpindi for Champions Trophy matches this week. The lack of holidays would mean the general public would have to continue their daily commutes in the twin cities posing a significant problem for people.

The federal government and local government have the authority to issue a holiday notification on Sunday, February 23. If a holiday is announced, the schools, colleges, and universities across Islamabad and Rawalpindi will remain closed for three days. If announced, the holiday will also give a long weekend to the students.

The government’s decision to not give any holidays might have been taken under the light of improved security situation and avoiding economic fallout from public holidays.

The City Traffic Police have also issued a traffic plan for the residents for the Champions Trophy 2025 matches.
