The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has decided to meet on March 30 (Sunday) to perform the moon sighting ceremony of Shawwal moon to determine the date of Eid ul Fitr 2025.

The sighting of Shawwal moon would mark the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan in Pakistan.

Diverse experts constitute the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee including religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other who will deliberate on testimonies received from across the country.

Traditionally, the committee receives multiple testimonies from across Pakistan during the session after which experts determine the date for starting the new Islamic month.

Pakistan witnessed the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan on March 2, as the Ramadan moon was not sighted on February 28.

Previously, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) forecasted that the chances of Ramadan moon being sighted were “very low”. It had also predicted that the Shawwal moon would be visible on March 30, 2025 and Eid ul Fitr 2025 would likely occur on March 31 (Monday).

As Eid ul Fitr 2025 approaches, many are wondering about the expected holidays that come with the event. The federal government has not issued any update about the Eid holidays in the country.

However, it is expected that Eid holidays will begin from Sunday (March 30) as it is already a government-mandated weekend holiday.

Traditionally, there are always three holidays for Eid ul Fitr and if Eid falls on Monday then the holidays could end on Wednesday.

However, if the Shawwal moon is not sighted on Sunday then Eid ul Fitr 2025 would fall on Tuesday.

Then the three-days holiday would conclude on Thursday. The final notification regarding Eid holidays will be issued by the Cabinet Division. Last year, the notification was issued on April 4, six days before Eid ul Fitr. This year, the Cabinet Division is expected to notify Eid holidays in Pakistan around March 25.
