Pakistan’s top players, including Babar Azam, whose performance has been below average lately, are likely to be dropped from the squad for the team’s tour of New Zealand next month.
According to reports, the players include captain Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah.
Pakistan’s upcoming series against New Zealand is scheduled from March 16 to April 5.
Pakistan team will take part in a series consisting of 5 T20 and 3 ODI matches during their tour of New Zealand.
The development comes after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.
The above-mentioned players received heavy criticism from fans and former Pakistani cricketers after the team failed to win a single match.
Pakistan ended the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament at the bottom of Group A with a point after their last match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain in Rawalpindi.
It is also reported that the squad that will visit New Zealand will include five to six younger talents. However, the decision is yet to be made.
Ex-Pakistan wicket-keeper, Kamran Akmal said that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi should be limited to Test and ODI cricket.
