The Livestock Department of Balochistan has issued an alert following reports of lumpy skin disease spreading among animals in the Sindh districts of Moro and Naushahro Feroze.
In an official communication, the Director General of the Livestock Department warned of the risk of the disease entering Balochistan. The viral infection previously caused significant damage to livestock in the province during the 2022-23 outbreak.
To prevent a repeat of that situation, officials have been directed to monitor animal movement from Sindh and from areas along the Afghan border. Strict checks are to be enforced, and any animals showing symptoms or suspected of infection are to be barred from entering the province.
Field teams have been asked to stay alert, especially in border districts, to stop the disease from spreading into Balochistan.
