Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has declared that the era of deep economic, security, and military ties between Canada and the United States “is over,” following steep auto tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump.

Speaking in Ottawa on Thursday, Carney stated, “The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over.”

His remarks came a day after Trump imposed significant tariffs on auto imports, a move that has heightened tensions between the two allies.

Carney also revealed that the White House had reached out to schedule a call with Trump, which he expects to take place “in the next day or two.”
