No petrol strike in Pakistan as things settle between Petroleum Association, govt

In a major development, Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has withdrawn their strike call scheduled for March 4, Tuesday. After negotiations with the federal government, petroleum dealers have withdrawn their strike call scheduled for tomorrow.

The talks were held between Petroleum Minister Dr Musadik Malik and the representatives of the Petroleum Dealers Association, with the participation of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Chairman (OGRA) and officials from the Petroleum Ministry.

Sources revealed that petroleum dealers opposed the proposal to deregulate petroleum product prices.

According to sources, the Petroleum Dealers Association will be fully consulted in the deregulation process of the petroleum sector.

Earlier, the Petroleum Minister had announced the deregulation of oil sector prices. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Petroleum Dealers Association confirmed that following discussions with the Petroleum Minister, dealers have decided to withdraw their strike call.

On February 20, Chairman of the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (APPDA), Abdul Sami Khan, warned the federal government of petrol dealers’ nationwide strike after government announced deregulation of petroleum sector.

Federal Minister for Petroleum, Musadik Malik, during an address at the Global Oil and Gas Conference , revealed that the government would implement the deregulation policy in the petroleum sector.

The Minister stated that the move would encourage oil companies to compete in open market, ultimately offering cheaper petrol to consumers.
