KARACHI (Azaad English): The Sindh government is introducing another endeavors to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance female empowerment by providing pink electric motorcycles to women.
Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over a cabinet meeting which authorised the government to purchase 1,000 pink electric motorcycles meant solely for female riders together with plans to launch new buses in Karachi.
The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) will supervise the distribution of 1,000 pink electric motorcycles to increase sustainable transport and female mobility in the Sindh province. This transportation scheme worth Rs300 million will create a sustainable method of travel for student and working female residents at affordable rates. Public distribution of motorcycles will occur by a fair ballot system.


Eligibility criteria for Pink Electric Motorcycles
The open balloting system for pink electric motorcycles under the Sindh government requires applicants to show permanent residency status in Sindh while having a valid driving license for two-wheelers either as students or employed workers. The open balloting system will distribute motorcycles which cannot be sold for seven years by the recipients.
Female purchasers must promise to maintain exclusive ownership of the motorcycle throughout seven years without selling it.
The program serves to boost independence while bringing down gender prejudices and ensuring better safety for female commuters.
Electric bikes serve as an economical transportation solution because fuel prices persist in escalation. Both environmentally friendly and economical these bicycles serve as an excellent commuting option for regular users. However the federal government has approved the decrease in petrol prices by Rs0.50 per litre for the next fortnight starting from March 1,2025.
Along with pink electric motorcycles the acquisition of 50 new public transport buses for Karachi has received validation from the cabinet which aims to empower female riders. Available funds will be used to procure a total of 50 new buses consisting of 35 electric buses which will serve different route areas while 15 double-decker buses will operate on Sharae Faisal lines. The Rs3 billion budgeted project works to establish a cleaner and more operationally efficient public transit for Karachi residents.
