Reuters official 'X' account is now banned in India

India has blocked the main Twitter (now X) account of the leading global news agency Reuters. The notice displayed read: “@Reuters has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”

The Modi government has already been accused by several international organisations of pursuing hardline policies against media outlets, activists, and minorities. Even a neutral outlet like Reuters has now been deemed “unbearable” in India for reporting facts that do not align with the government’s narrative.
This is not the first time that voices speaking the truth have been silenced in India. Previously, BBC, Al Jazeera, and other organisations have also faced government backlash.
