WEBDESK: On March 1, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine visited the UK to meet with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Starmer embraced Zelensky during their meeting held at 10 Downing Street, which demonstrated his strong backing of Ukraine.

This meeting came a day after a tense exchange between the Ukrainian president and former US President Donald Trump at the White House.

A large number of people had created a cheering reception as the Ukrainian president landed in London in front of Downing Street. Starmer told him that the UK offers full backing to Ukraine through all necessary periods.

The meeting took place before an European defense meeting would focus on enhancing Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. With uncertainty around US support, European nations are considering to increase their support for Ukraine. Zelensky expressed his deep appreciation by saying, “We appreciate everything you have done from the beginning of the war. We rely on your support.”

A £2.26 billion ($2.84 billion) financial cooperation between the UK and Ukraine was launched to strengthen Ukrainian defense capabilities.

Zelensky met Starmer who then proceeded to talk with Trump and French President Macron to collaborate on further assistance for Ukraine. The European continent needs to team up with the United States to establish both Ukrainian security and stability according to him.

The heated exchange between the two presidents grew worse when Trump accused the Ukrainian president of not being thankful enough for US assistance while hinting that future support would depend on Ukrainian acceptance of US peace terms.

Trump’s remarks sparked concern among European leaders, many of whom reaffirmed their support for Zelensky. The French President labeled Russia as the instigating force while assuring continued EU backing.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban sided with Trump, praising his approach to peace.

As the war enters its fourth year, European leaders face mounting pressure to step up support. Despite his clash with Trump, Zelensky remains open to future talks with the US, recognizing its crucial role in Ukraine’s future.
