Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on August 4 that foreign fighters from Pakistan and other countries were fighting against Ukrainian troops.
He said they were fighting in the north-eastern region of Ukraine.
Zelensky said these foreign “mercenaries” came from China, Pakistan, and parts of Africa. He also named Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. “We will respond,” he said.
Zelensky visited a frontline area in the Kharkiv region He posted about it on X, formerly Twitter.
“We spoke with commanders about the frontline situation, the defence of Vovchansk, and the dynamics of the battles,” he wrote.
Ukraine had earlier accused Russia of using Chinese fighters. China denied the claim. Ukraine also said North Korea had sent troops to Russia’s Kursk region.
Some experts have pointed out the timing behind Zelensky’s allegation, as US President Donald Trump has lashed out at India for “buying” Russian oil.
Some experts opined that since Pakistan has been winning the diplomatic and strategic balancing between the major world powers, this may be a deliberate attempt to create problems for Pakistan.
