WEBDESK: The latest X update reveals that the social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, will remain blocked in Pakistan for the foreseeable future. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and X’s foreign management have failed to reach an agreement, making its return uncertain.

The platform has been inaccessible in Pakistan since February 17, 2024, after the Ministry of Interior ordered its suspension due to concerns over illegal online content. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, the company has refused to register in Pakistan or comply with local laws.

According to the PTA, the social media platform did not formally request the restoration of its services, nor did it agree to remove the content flagged by the authorities. As a result, the PTA has decided not to restore X unless instructed by the government or a court order.

This development left many users frustrated, as the platform remains an important space for news, discussions, and digital activism. Many people in Pakistan are now relying on VPN services to access the social media platform, though this is not a long-term solution.

For now, there is no clear timeline for when the platform might return. Unless X agrees to follow local regulations or a legal order forces its restoration, the ban is expected to continue. The government has not issued any new statement regarding the matter.
