Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has decided to use 190 million pounds taken from Pakistani business tycoon Malik Riaz by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

Journalist Shahbaz Rana has revealed that the prime minister will establish the Danish University of Emerging Technology in Islamabad and unprivileged schools for the children in the backward areas of Pakistan.

With the university, the prime minister will also make a small hospital.

Supreme Court has issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) in this regard and the government has held several meetings to discuss the matter.

The money is currently in Public Accounts.

Earlier this year, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were convicted in the case involving this 190 million pounds.
Imran Khan was given a 14-year sentence while his wife was awarded a sentence of seven years.

How were Imran Khan and Malik Riaz involved in this case?

Back in 2019, the NCA announced a £190 million out-of-court civil settlement with Malik Riaz. It was the largest settlement ever made by the NCA, which added that the outcome “did not represent a finding of guilt”.

The settlement included one Hyde Park Place, a sumptuous £50 million property in London’s exclusive Knightsbridge and which had previously belonged to the son of former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

NAB alleged that PM Imran Khan abused his authority by giving the money to Malik Riaz instead of depositing it in the national exchequer.

In return, Khan and Bushra Bibi allegedly received billions of rupees and hundreds of kanals from Bahria Town for facilitating the transaction to Baharia Town founder.

Malik Riaz’s son transferred 240 kanals of land to Bushra’s friend Farhat Shahzadi, while Zulfi Bukhari, Imran’s close aide received land under a trust
