WEBDESK: Quetta Gladiators’ spinner Usman Tariq has once again come under scrutiny for his bowling action. During a Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 match between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown reported Usman Tariq for a suspect action.
“Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq was reported by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown for a suspect bowling action during his side’s HBL PSL X match against Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday evening”, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Usman Tariq is still allowed to play and bowl in the ongoing tournament. However, if his bowling action is reported again during PSL 10, he will be suspended. In such a case, he would need to undergo testing at an ICC-approved lab to get clearance before he can bowl again.
This is not the first time Usman Tariq has faced such concerns. He was also reported during PSL 9 for a similar issue. At that time, his action was reviewed at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, and he was cleared to continue.
In the match where his action was reported, Lahore Qalandars defeated Quetta Gladiators by 79 runs. Fakhar Zaman scored a strong 67, and Sam Billings added a quick 50. Quetta Gladiators struggled in their chase and were bowled out for 140 runs in just 16.2 overs.
Chasing 220, Gladiators’ chase ended in 16.2 overs as the Qalandars won the game by 79 runs.
The Saud Shakeel-led side was off to a horrid start as their captain was dismissed by Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Afridi in the very first over of their inning.
