A youth-led progressive Jewish group in the United States (US) has welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Iran and mourned the deaths in Gaza.

The group said, “Right now, the Israeli military continues to massacre and starve Palestinians in Gaza. We need a ceasefire there now to end Israel’s genocidal assault and to return the remaining living hostages.”

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said, “The tragic numbers that you referred to speak for themselves as to the horrors of what is going on in Gaza.”

The Gulf Cooperation Council has also renewed its calls to end the Israeli assault on Gaza, saying Israel is killing civilians and preventing international agencies from delivering aid to people in the Palestinian territory.

In another development, Israel’s main opposition leader, Yair Lapid has said that the time has come to finish the attack on the Gaza Strip.

“Now we need to bring back the hostages and end the war in Gaza. To set Israel on a new path,” said Lapid in a video message on social media.

It is pertinent to mention that more than 56,000 Palestinians — most of them women and children — have been killed in Gaza.
