Webdesk: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, met with Eloy Alfaro de Alba, the current President of the UN Security Council, on Tuesday and handed over a letter from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
The letter highlights serious concerns over India’s ongoing human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
The meeting and letter delivery marked the sixth anniversary of India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019, when New Delhi revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, a move widely criticised in Pakistan and disputed under international law.
In the letter, Ishaq Dar called on the 15-member Security Council to fulfil its responsibility by taking meaningful steps to implement its own resolutions on the long-standing Kashmir dispute.
He urged the Council to work towards a fair, peaceful, and lasting resolution in line with the UN Charter and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s UN Mission, copies of the letter have also been forwarded to the President of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang, and to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
