United States (US) President Donald Trump has said that a Gaza ceasefire could take place next week.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters, saying he had just been in contact with some of the people involved in efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Recently, a majority of Israelis have voted in favour of ending the Gaza war and the atrocities committed under Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu’s regime.
According to a poll conducted by the Jerusalem Post, which included both Jewish and Arab citizens aged 18 and above, 67 per cent of respondents supported a deal for the release of hostages. However, a portion of the population remains opposed to ending the conflict.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated calls for a ceasefire in Gaza after a call with Israeli PM Netanyahu.
He also stressed the need for “large-scale access for humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip” and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution – a political path to peace that Israel has increasingly disregarded amid its genocide on the Palestinian people.
