WEBDESK: The US President Donald Trump has once again re asserted that Pakistan shot down at least five Indian fighter jets during a major escalation on the night of 6th to 7th May 2025.

Speaking at a public event, Mr Trump stated that “they shot down five planes”, in what many see as a reference to the intense aerial clashes between India and Pakistan earlier this year. This is not the first time the former U.S. president has made such remarks, but his repetition of the claim has drawn renewed attention to Pakistan’s military response during the May conflict.

The incident in question took place during heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Pakistan has officially claimed that its air defences successfully engaged and downed five Indian Air Force jets, which were reportedly involved in cross-border operations.

India, however, has consistently denied losing that number of aircraft, admitting only to minor damages. Despite this, several independent observers and media reports noted increased air activity and multiple aircraft losses during the week of the conflict.

President Trump’s remarks are likely to be seen in Islamabad as a diplomatic boost, validating Pakistan’s version of events. His words may also raise difficult questions in New Delhi about the true scale of losses suffered by the Indian Air Force.

This is not the first time. Earlier Speaking at a dinner with Republican senators, Trump recalled the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. He said, “You had India, Pakistan… planes were being shot out of the air. I think five jets were shot down.” He described the situation as dangerous and said both countries were “hitting each other.”

Trump’s words confirm what Pakistan had already claimed that its Air Force successfully defended the nation and downed several Indian aircraft. Among them were Rafales, considered India’s top-of-the-line jets bought from France.
