WEBDESK: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has directed the US military to take control of a stretch of land near the border with Mexico. This land, known as the Roosevelt Reservation, is a 60-foot-wide strip of federal land that runs along parts of California, Arizona, and New Mexico.

The move is aimed at strengthening border security. Under the new order, the US military will be allowed to manage this area and temporarily detain people who enter it illegally. However, they are not allowed to make immigration arrests. Instead, anyone detained will be handed over to the US Border Patrol.

The Roosevelt Reservation was originally set aside back in 1907 for border protection. Now, with this new order, it will fall under the control of the Department of Defense. This means both active-duty forces and National Guard units can now operate in this zone.

The decision has raised some legal concerns. Federal law typically limits the use of the US military in domestic law enforcement, and critics say this move may test those legal boundaries. Still, Trump’s team says it is part of a broader push to reduce illegal border crossings.

So far, the White House and the Department of Defense have not shared detailed plans about how the order will be carried out. It is also unclear how long people can be detained or how the patrols will work.

This action adds to previous steps taken by the Trump administration to use the US military in border operations. It reflects his ongoing focus on immigration and border control as key national issues. For now, the US military is preparing to increase its role at the border, while the political and legal debate continues.
