Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif thanked US President Donald Trump for “acknowledging and appreciating Pakistan’s role and support in counter terrorism efforts” after Trump expressed his gratitude to the country for arresting the terrorist who was responsible for the Kabul airport attack which killed 13 US service members and more than 150 Afghan civilians.
In a tweet, the prime minister also promised to continue working “closely with the United States in securing regional peace and stability.”
During his speech in Congress, Trump said, “I want to thank especially the government of Pakistan for helping us arrest this monster.”
Pakistan arrested the terrorist with the help of America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Where is the terrorist involved in Kabul airport attack?
The terrorist, Muhammad Sharifullah is now being transferred to the United States where he will face charges.
“Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice,” said Trump.
According to reports, Sharifullah was in prison from 2019 until two weeks before the Kabul airport attack also known as the Abbey Gate attack. When he was released, he was contacted by ISIS members to carry out the Kabul airport attack.
In his address, the US president also hit out at his predecessor Joe Biden for disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.
When did Kabul airport attack happen?
It is pertinent to mention that the US started to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan in 2020 after two decades and Kabul airport attack happened in 2021.
