‘This guy needs to be fired’, Maryam Nawaz dismisses MS Mayo Hostpital

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Thursday undertook a surprise visit to Lahore’s largest public healthcare institution, Mayo Hospital, where she found the administration’s performance unsatisfactory, leading to removal of a Medical Superintendent (MS).

During the surprise visit, the Chief Minister found widespread mismanagement and poor patient care after listening to the grievances of patients.

Patients and their attendants complained about the unavailability of medicines, poor hygiene in wards and lack of other medical facilities. Many patients also complained about the lack of basic medical supplies such as syringes and lancets.

It merits a mention that Maryam walked through various wards herself, engaging directly with many patients and listening to their complaints.

Expressing her anger over the hospital’s administration in a since viral video, the Chief Minister questioned the MS’s competence, saying: “You don’t even know what’s happening with the patients. Who appointed you here? Be grateful I’m not having you arrested.”

In one instance, a young girl narrated her emotion ordeal about how she spent the previous night running between pharmacies to purchase medicines for her mother.

The CM look visibly moved by the girl’s grievance and assured the girl that immediate action would be taken.

Maryam Nawaz stated: “The people come here with hope, but no one is there to help them. Those responsible for this negligence will be held accountable.”

The CM convened an emergency meeting at the hospital, instructing the health secretary to submit a detailed report on the hospital’s affairs.

She also asserted that those responsible for negligence would only understand the gravity of this situation of their loved ones were in the hospital.

CM Maryam Nawaz ordered immediate payment of medical dues while directing the administration to ensure complete medical supply.
