WEBDESK: Taylor Swift has officially bought back the master rights to her first six albums, a major win in her years long battle for ownership. This includes albums like Fearless, Red, and 1989.

The move comes after a long dispute that began in 2019 when Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Records, the label that originally owned her music.

The masters are the original versions of an artist’s songs. Whoever owns them controls how and where the music is used. Taylor Swift was upset that her masters were sold without her approval, and she wasn’t given the chance to buy them first

In response, she began re recording her albums and releasing them as “Taylor’s Version.” These re recordings quickly topped charts, proving that fans were behind her. The move helped her reclaim both financial control and creative power over her songs.

Now, Swift has taken it one step further by purchasing the original recordings. She bought them from Shamrock Capital, the investment firm that got them from Braun. Reports suggest the deal may be worth about $360 million. Though the exact amount hasn’t been confirmed, it’s clear this is one of the most valuable music deals ever.

A Dream Come True for Taylor Swift

Calling the moment her “greatest dream,” Taylor Swift thanked her fans for their loyalty and support. She spoke openly about how emotional the journey has been but said the end result made it worth it.

Taylor Swift’s fight has started wider conversations about artists’ rights. Her bold actions have encouraged other musicians to think about who owns their work. It has also pushed music labels to be more transparent with their contracts.

Swift is still working on re recording her album Reputation. She has said it’s a difficult one to revisit emotionally, but she’s determined to complete the project. Now with full ownership of her catalog, Taylor Swift controls how her songs are used in movies, ads, and streaming.
