WEBDESK: Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack during a domestic match in Dhaka on Monday morning. The 36-year-old, playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, felt chest discomfort during the first innings against Shinepukur Cricket Club.

Medical staff immediately attended to Tamim Iqbal on the field. Initially, there were plans to airlift him to Dhaka for further treatment, but due to logistical issues, he was taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital in Savar. Doctors later confirmed that he had experienced a serious cardiac episode.

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) chief physician, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, stated that early tests indicated minor heart complications, but Tamim’s condition worsened as he was being moved towards a helipad for transport.

This prompted his immediate return to the hospital, where further evaluations confirmed the severity of the heart attack.

Dr. Chowdhury assured that Tamim is under close medical supervision, with efforts focused on stabilising his condition. The incident has deeply unsettled Bangladesh’s cricket fraternity, as Tamim has been an integral figure in the national team for over a decade.

Tamim Iqbal is one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated cricketers, having retired from international cricket after a 15-year-long career. He has scored over 15,000 runs across all formats and played a key role in Bangladesh’s cricketing success.

Doctors are closely monitoring his condition, and further updates are expected soon. Cricket fans worldwide are hoping for a speedy recovery for the former captain.
