WEBDESK: While the Taj Mahal is often hailed as a symbol of India’s rich history and architectural beauty, recent footage shared by international tourists on social media has painted a far less flattering image of the reality surrounding the famous monument.
Taj Mahal Turns Trash Mahal: Global Tourists Mock India’s Tourism Sham
Tourists can be seen gagging with the pungent stench in the viral video as they walk around the surroundings of Taj Mahal. There is one person who says: It stinks awful, worse than Chennai, and the others are actually spluttering in attempts to take video footage of the scene.
The tourists described piles of rotting garbage littering the area, with one sarcastically remarking: “Here we have a beautiful sunset bouncing off the garbage.” The video, now widely circulated online, has reignited criticism over India’s deteriorating civic management and fake tourism image.
The video brings out a severe contrast between the claim of a shining, clean India aspirated by the Modi regime and the bleak, unsanitary circumstances experienced by tourists at one of India most popular attractions.
Hundreds of social media users, both locally and internationally, have been shocked by the dirtiness and unworthy maintenance around the Taj Mahal and have labeled it as a shame to a nation that is trying to hold a lead as one of the tourist destinations of the world.

The incident has further exposed India’s crumbling infrastructure, unchecked pollution, and cosmetic tourism campaigns, which critics say focus more on image-building than addressing ground realities.
