WEBDESK: Police have discovered a suspicious white powder in the flat of late actress and model Humaira Asghar. The powder was found stored in clay pots at several places inside her apartment in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

The discovery came during an investigation into her mysterious death. Humaira’s body was found on 8 July after police, along with a court bailiff, broke into her flat to enforce an eviction order. Her landlord had taken legal action over unpaid rent since April 2024.

Neighbours had reported a bad smell coming from the flat. However, an empty neighbouring apartment, unoccupied until February 2025, may have delayed the discovery of the body. The apartment’s doors were locked from the inside, suggesting she was alone at the time of her death.

The white powder was found in three to four clay vessels. Police believe it might have been used to suppress the smell of decomposition, as her body, although nearly 10 months old, gave off a surprisingly low odour.

“For now, we can’t say what the powder is,” said a police source. “It has been sent for chemical testing.”

The clothes recovered from the apartment have also been sent for forensic testing. The exact cause of death is still unknown. Early post-mortem results suggest she may have died in the first week of October 2024. No signs of poisoning have been found so far.

Police are waiting for lab results to confirm whether any foul play was involved.
