WEBDESK: Nintendo and Illumination have officially revealed the title of the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie Super Mario World and is set to release on April 3, 2026 in the United States.

The announcement was done by Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri. They also revealed the film will “broadening Mario’s world” and will offer fresh surprises to the fans of the loved video-game franchise.

The title Super Mario World is a direct reference to the iconic 1990 Super Nintendo game of the same name. The classic game introduced the character Yoshi, a fan favorite who is expected to appear in the movie. In fact, a post-credit scene from the first movie hinted at Yoshi’s arrival, exciting long-time Super Mario fans.

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are returning for the sequel, along with screenwriter Matthew Fogel. The first Super Mario movie, released in 2023, was a massive hit worldwide, earning over $1.36 billion at the global box office. The team behind the sequel hopes to build on that success by expanding the Super Mario universe with new characters and fresh adventures.

Although the details about the plot are still kept secret Miyamoto said that the sequel will promise a “bright and fun story”. With more of the colorful action packed world of the first, fans can expect to see their family’s favorite videogame turned film to continue its run of success.

With the official title officially put in place, excitement is already brewing for Super Mario World. With both a seasoned gamer or a just a fan of the first movie in mind, the sequel of this movie promises to bring even more of that Super Mario magic to the big screen.
