WEBDESK: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) predicts that the zilhaj chand (Zilhaj moon) is unlikely to be visible on May 27. Instead, it is expected to be sighted on May 28, making Eid ul Adha likely to fall on June 7.

As a result, the Islamic month of Zilhaj is expected to begin on May 29, 2025. This forecast is based on astronomical data.

Zilhaj Chand: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Meet on May 27

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan will meet on May 27 to observe the zilhaj chand. This meeting will take place at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad and will be led by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Zonal committees in cities like Lahore and Peshawar will also participate in the moon sighting and report their findings to the central committee.

Zilhaj chand marks the start of Zilhaj month for Muslims throughout the world. It decides the date for Eid ul Adha, a key festival in Islam that is commemorated by special prayers and an animal sacrifice.

In case the moon is spotted on May 27, Eid ul Adha will take place on June 6. If not, the celebration will be held on June 7.

SUPARCO’s Prediction: Zilhaj Chand Not Likely on May 27

According to SUPARCO, the zilhaj chand is unlikely to be seen on May 27 due to its young age. The moon will only be about 11 hours old that evening too young to be visible to the naked eye. However, it is expected to be clearly visible on May 28, when it will be over 35 hours old. This supports the prediction that Zilhaj will begin on May 29, and Eid will likely fall on Saturday, June 7.

The decision will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after collecting sighting reports from all over the country. An official statement will follow the meeting on May 27.
