As nation embraces for Ramadan, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Wednesday issued the gas supply schedule for the next month.

It should be noted that SSGC mainly supplies natural gas to Sindh and Balochistan regions. According to the gas schedule, the gas supply would be ensured between 3am to 9am for Sehri and 3:30pm to 10pm for Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the holy month when Muslims around the globe observe regular fasts for the entire month from sunrise to sunset. This month holds immense importance for Muslims as it is considered a time for forgiveness and spiritual development.

The SSGC released a statement: “These timings have been worked out to provide convenience to our esteemed customers for food preparations for Sehar and Iftar.”

Reason for Gas Schedule

It also noted that there has been an annual 10% decrease in the country’s gas reserves which leads to shortage of gas supply leading to limited gas schedules. Pakistan’s natural gas reserves continue to deplete due to increasing demand and unplanned nation-wide usage.

As the country faces depleted natural gas reserves, it will have to move towards an imported substitute which is highly expensive.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet on February 28 in Peshawar for moon sighting ceremony of Ramadan 2025.

If the moon is sighted tomorrow then the holy month of Ramadan will begin on March 1 in Pakistan. However, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) recently stated that the probability of moon being sighted tomorrow is “extremely low.”

According to Suparco, Ramadan would begin on March 2 in Pakistan while the Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed on March 31.

“According to precise astronomical models, the new moon (conjunction) for Ramazan 2025 will occur on February 28, at 05:45 PST. However, the visibility of the crescent depends on key factors such as the moon’s age, its angular separation from the sun, altitude at sunset, and atmospheric conditions,” stated SUPARCO.
