ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Railways has launched special Eid train services to help citizens travel home conveniently and safely for Eidul-Fitr celebrations.
Three special trains have been scheduled on major routes. The first train left Karachi Cantonment for Lahore on March 26 with 16 coaches, passing through cities like Hyderabad, Rohri, Multan, and Sahiwal. Another train departed from Quetta to Peshawar Cantonment on the same day with 11 coaches, traveling via Multan and Sahiwal. The third train left Lahore for Karachi on March 27, making stops at Khanewal, Multan, Sahiwal, and Rohri.
To make travel more affordable, Pakistan Railways has announced a 20per cent discount on special Eid train fares for the first three days of Eid. This discount applies to all train classes, including mail, express, passenger, and intercity trains.
This initiative follows the directives of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif, who aims to ease travel expenses and help people celebrate Eid with their families. The government remains committed to providing safe, comfortable, and affordable railway services for the public.
Meanwhile, Eidul-Fitr 2025 is expected to be observed in Pakistan on Monday, March 31, after the completion of 29 days of Ramadan.
According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, the Shawwal moon is expected to be visible on the evening of Sunday, March 30, provided the weather remains clear.
Khalid Ijaz Mufti, Secretary General of the council, stated that the new moon will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 3:58 PM Pakistan time. By sunset on March 30, the moon will be over 26 hours old, making it easily visible. The required time difference between sunset and moonset, necessary for visibility, will also be met in various cities.
This ensures that Eid celebrations can be planned accordingly across the country.
