ISLAMABAD (Azaad English): Newly built Islamabad 9th Avenue has developed a sinkhole following recent rainfall, raising concerns about the quality of construction and the city’s drainage system.
The new sinkhole emerged on the road after its construction period of just a few months. Safety precautions have been implemented by authorities who set barriers and roadblocks in the affected zone to conduct repair work.

The community along with commuters show anger about how the recently built road 9th Avenue Islamabad could suffer such significant failure since its completion. People criticise the underlying building defects and poor planning mapping of the project due to substandard construction materials.

The objective of building 9th Avenue for traffic decongestion in the capital turned into safety hazards following the unexpected development of a sinkhole.
The daily users of this road encounter extended journeys because of different routes and obstructed paths.
The inadequate drainage structure allowed water to penetrate below ground where it damaged the foundation until a sinkhole formed.
The city administration conducts repair work but local residents call for permanent solutions instead of temporary fixes. People emphasise that robust quality control and better construction approaches need to be established because they will help stop future occurrences of equal severity.
The maintenance process requires citizens to select different travel paths until the repair operation completes. The authorities have not given a timeline for when the road will be reopened.
