KARACHI (Azaad English): The Sindh government has officially taken over the Green Line Orange Line bus services in Karachi. A handover ceremony was held at the Operational Command and Control Center in Garden, Karachi.

At the event, Wasim Bajwa, CEO of Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company Limited (PIDCL), handed over control to Asad Zamin, Transport Secretary of Sindh. Other officials, including Kamal Dayo, MD of Sindh Mass Transit Authority, and representatives from the Orange Line and Green Line BRT systems, were also present.

Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said this transfer is an important step in improving Karachi’s public transport system. He assured that the Sindh government is committed to making the bus services more efficient and sustainable. He also stated that efforts would be made to improve the performance of the BRT system using modern technology and regular maintenance.

Memon also shared that a larger urban transit system is being developed for Karachi, which will connect the BRT lines with other transport services.

Last week, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Board approved the transfer of control in its 14th meeting, chaired by Sharjeel Memon. The board also discussed sending Green Line and Orange Line agreements to the Law Department for legal approval. It was also decided that the existing staff of these BRT services would continue working for the next three months.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has also announced that the People’s Bus Service will operate until 1 AM during Ramadan from the 15th of the holy month. This extension will apply to important routes, including R1, R2, R3, R4, R9, R10, and EV1.

Memon said this decision was made to help Karachi residents who depend on public transport.
