Sindh govt cancels Eid holidays

The Sindh government has cancelled Eid holidays of Transport and Mass Transit Department for the sake of public.

The development took place to ensure a smooth travel experience for the public during Eid holidays. Therefore, transport officials will remain on duty to facilitate commuters.

Sindh Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the holidays for the staff of the Transport and Mass Transit Department have been cancelled to protect passengers travelling for Eid celebrations from being overcharged.

The transport minister urged citizens not to pay any extra fare during Eid holidays and warned transporters against overcharging, assuring that strict action will be taken against violators.

Eid-ul-Fitr is expected on March 31.

Earlier, the federal government announced a three-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr from March 31 to April 2.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will sit together to sight the Shawwal moon and has decided to meet on March 30 (Sunday) to perform the moon sighting ceremony of Shawwal moon to determine the date of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025. The sighting of Shawwal moon would mark the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan in Pakistan.

Diverse experts constitute the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee including religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other who will deliberate on testimonies received from across the country.

According to General of the council, the new moon will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 3:58pm PKT. By sunset on Sunday, it will be visible to the naked eye.

Pakistan witnessed the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan on March 2nd, as the Ramadan moon was not sighted on February 28.
