WEBDESK: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that this year’s Independence Day celebrations will be held under the theme Marka-e-Haq.
Speaking at a press conference alongside ministers Sharjeel Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah, the CM said that Pakistan has achieved a historic victory and this moment must be celebrated across the country.
The celebrations will not be limited to 14 August. Instead, events will begin from 1 August and continue for 14 days. Both the federal and provincial governments will join hands to organise these activities.
“We celebrate 14 August every year,” Murad said, “but this time it must also reflect our recent success. People need to understand the true value of freedom.”
He also stated that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared. “The police, Rangers, and army are ready. Those who try to create trouble will be recognised by the public,” he warned. “We’ve never given up. We won’t cancel events due to terror threats.”
Murad appealed to the media for support. He asked them to highlight those who decorate their homes, buildings, or vehicles for the occasion.
This year’s theme will also include an economic angle. The CM said that initiatives like Uraan Pakistan will be part of the programme, showcasing Sindh’s economic progress over the past year.
There will be decoration contests for private buildings, vehicles, and motorbikes. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries. “It’s not about showing off money,” he explained. “It’s about expressing your spirit.”
On 13 and 14 August, Karachi’s National Stadium will host concerts and fireworks. Other cities will also celebrate: Hyderabad on 8 August, Sukkur on 10 August, and a cultural float will move from Sea View to Boat Basin on 13 August. A women’s cycling rally from Karachi to Chaukhandi is also planned.
The Sports Department will host 114 events, including a marathon, donkey cart races, cricket matches, and boat races.
Murad Ali Shah said Sindh has always led such efforts and will continue to do so. He added that any changes in the cabinet will be made by him, and “everyone will find out when the time comes.”
He also said flood hit areas may surprise everyone with their creativity in decoration contests. He will personally oversee the formation of the judging panel.
