WEBDESK: US Awami League Vice President Dr. Rabbi Alam, who is a close political aide of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claimed that she will return as the Prime Minister despite the ongoing political struggles.
Alam raised concerns over the political situation in Bangladesh, calling it an attack on the country and asking the international community to intervene.
Alam thanked India for providing shelter to Sheikh Hasina and other leaders, acknowledging the support provided by the Indian government.
“Bangladesh is under attack, and it needs to be addressed by the international community. A political uprising is fine, but that is not what has been going on in Bangladesh. This is a terrorist uprising… Many of our leaders are sheltered here in India, and we are very thankful to the Indian government for providing the alignment,” he stated.
Alam restated his belief that Sheikh Hasina would return to power, saying that the young generation in Bangladesh had made a mistake and that they had been manipulated.
In a related development, a court in Dhaka recently ordered the seizure of Sheikh Hasina’s family properties, including her Dhanmondi residence, and 124 bank accounts. This decision came amidst the political unrest in the country, which saw Hasina ousted following weeks of student-led protests and violence that left over 600 people dead.
The situation took a significant turn after the formation of an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
In January, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina and 10 others, including her former Defence Adviser and Inspector General of Police
