SBP new currency notes are moving to the next stage after the State Bank of Pakistan finalised the design for a new series of banknotes.
Governor Jameel Ahmad announced the decision at a press conference in Karachi and said the rollout will begin once the federal cabinet gives formal approval.
An international expert prepared the selected design.
The governor noted that the introduction process is underway and will proceed after the cabinet’s nod. No timeline was shared.

The State Bank has not released images of the new notes.
The governor did not disclose denominations, colours, or security features.
He clarified that a picture circulating on social media came from an earlier SBP art competition and is not linked to the official design.
The announcement came during a briefing that mainly covered monetary policy, where the central bank kept the interest rate unchanged.
The currency update was a separate point in the session and was limited to the status of the design and the next approval step.
The design is complete. The central bank will move ahead after cabinet approval. Full details will be made public at the time of issuance.
Until then, the existing notes remain legal tender.
The State Bank will issue guidance when the SBP new currency notes are ready, including how the new series will enter circulation and how the public can verify genuine notes.
The bank also reminded users to rely on official announcements instead of unofficial images shared online.
