Saudi’s Prince Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has passed away after nearly 20 years of being in coma.

He was known as “sleeping prince” and was in the condition following a traffic accident in 2005.

Despite numerous intensive medical efforts, including visits from international doctors – a team of American specialists and a Spanish neurologist – no significant improvement in his condition was ever achieved.

His family never lost hope, with his father often sharing images by his son’s bedside to reassure loved ones and supporters of his son’s condition.

In April 2025, the prince turned 36-year-old.

Sleeping prince’s death announcement

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal shared the news via X.

“With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow, we mourn our beloved son Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away to Allah’s mercy today”, his father said.

The funeral prayer will be held on Sunday, with mourning gatherings to continue for three days: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

After the news of Saudi‘s prince’s death broke, social media was filled with condolences. Users shared prayers and messages of sympathy with the family, asking God to have mercy on the late prince.

Over the years, the emotional story of “The Sleeping Prince” continued to captivate the public.

In 2020, after 15 years in a coma, Al-Waleed moved his hand which once again sparked hope among family and supporters.
