Top Saudi naval officer meets CJCSC, vows to boost defence ties

Webdesk: Vice Admiral Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Ghuraybi, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, met with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI (M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), during his visit to the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to a statement issued by ISPR.

The two military leaders had a detailed discussion on the changing security situation in both the Middle East and South Asia, especially focusing on issues related to maritime security.

General Mirza spoke about the strong and brotherly relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, and stressed the shared commitment to further improve their defence ties.

When the Saudi naval chief arrived at the headquarters, he was warmly welcomed and received a Guard of Honour from a well-turned-out tri-services contingent.

In another instance, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed to deepen their defence ties, with a special focus on naval cooperation and regional maritime security, according to an official statement.

The development came during a meeting in Islamabad between Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Vice Admiral Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Ghuraybi, Chief of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF), at Pakistan Navy Headquarters.

Both sides reaffirmed their long-standing military partnership, especially between their navies, which have maintained close contact through regular joint exercises and personnel exchange programmes over the years.

“The leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security situation and avenues for enhanced cooperation in defence, training and security,” the Pakistan Navy said in a statement. It added that both commanders expressed their resolve to expand and strengthen the scope of their existing defence collaboration.

The two naval chiefs also praised the successful completion of the joint naval exercise Naseem Al Bahr-XV, held earlier this year in the North Arabian Sea.

During the meeting, Admiral Ashraf briefed Vice Admiral Al Ghuraybi on the Pakistan Navy’s Regional Maritime Security Patrols (RMSP) initiative, aimed at promoting maritime stability, protecting key sea routes, and countering non-traditional threats like piracy and smuggling in the Arabian Sea and the wider Indian Ocean region.
