Webdesk: Saudi Arabia has arrested over 22,000 people in the last week alone in a major enforcement drive against illegal residency, border infiltrations and labour law violations.
According to the latest data released by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, a total of 13,835 individuals were detained for violating residency (Iqama) regulations.
Meanwhile, 4,772 people were arrested while attempting to cross the border illegally, as part of broader efforts to combat human smuggling and unauthorised movement across the Kingdom’s frontiers.
Additionally, around 3,540 migrants were taken into custody for breaking labour laws, highlighting Saudi authorities’ intensified monitoring of undocumented workers and unauthorised employment.
In parallel with the crackdown on illegal migration, the Kingdom also advanced its anti-corruption drive during the month of July 2025.
A total of 425 cases of corruption were investigated, resulting in the arrest of 142 individuals under accountability procedures.
Among these cases were several employees of the government alleged to have committed various acts of corruption.
These decisions indicate a two-fold directive of Saudi Arabia: curb illegal immigration and promote transparency in government organisations.
The government has on numerous occasions expressed commitment to improving the rule of law, good governance, and judicial integrity as part of its wider agenda that includes social and economic stability.
By directing their efforts on illegal migrants and corrupt officials, the Saudi authorities are seeking to maintain national security, support public order, and enhance trust in institutional accountability.
