Sana Yousaf was tragically murdered simply because she refused to meet her killer.
This was confessed by her killer, Umar Hayat before a magistrate. He stated that he had called Sana for a meeting and waited the entire day, but she never showed up. He claimed that she asked him to leave and refused to accept the birthday gift he had brought for her.
In his confession, Umar further said that on June 2nd, he once again asked Sana to meet him but she did not. Enraged by her continued refusals, he went to her house and shot her dead in a fit of rage.
Sana was murdered inside her home in early June, just days after celebrating her 17th birthday in Islamabad.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that social media influencer Sana Yousaf’s killer must be given exemplary punishment and that this case should serve as a “test case” to ensure such crimes never happen again.
“The key now is to make sure there are no loopholes in the prosecution or trial process,” he said, adding, “Our lawyers and the Lawyers’ Forum will assist the legal team to ensure justice is served.”
Tarar visited Yousaf’s home and extended condolences to her family, telling them that the prime minister and the interior minister had taken strict notice of the murder.
