WEBDESK: Salman Iqbal, the owner of Karachi Kings, has shared strong support for Pakistani cricket star Babar Azam. In a recent podcast, he said that Babar Azam’s talent and class will help him become even better than India’s Virat Kohli.
Babar Azam’s rapid rise through the ranks of Pakistan cricket once saw him compared to modern greats like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith to become the World’s premier batsman. However, in recent times, his form has sharply declined, casting doubts over his once-promising career.
While Babar Azam has not been in top form recently, Salman believes this is just a rough patch. He praised Babar’s skill and consistency over the years, saying, “Form is temporary, class is permanent.” According to him, Babar Azam has the potential to be remembered like cricket legends Sir Vivian Richards and Garry Sobers.
“When Babar Azam makes a comeback again, he will be a bigger player than any other player in the world, including Virat Kohli. He will be matched with names like Garry Sobers and Sir Viv Richards,” Iqbal stated.
The 28-year-old batsman was notably dropped from the Pakistan squad for the Test series against England at home, and more recently, he was left out of the T20I squad for the series against New Zealand.
Hoping to reignite his form in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), Babar has faced criticism lately for his performances, where he struggled to make an impact for Peshawar Zalmi. As of now he has scored 1 run in the 2 games he’s played in the tournament.
The Karachi Kings owner added that Babar has already achieved so much at a young age. He believes once Babar regains his form, he will silence all critics and reach new heights in his career. Salman also pointed out that comparisons between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli are natural, but Babar has something unique that sets him apart.
