ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday appreciated the officers of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for their exemplary performance against human trafficking gangs.
Prime Minister attended a meeting with the officials of FIA and IB along with various ministers and interior secretary, where he expressed hope that if such efforts remain continuous it would rid the country of this horrible practice.
The Prime Minister has said that those involved in human trafficking gangs are responsible for the loss of many innocent lives. Many people drowned and lost their lives due to this heinous act. There can be no greater injustice to human lives than this.
PM Shehbaz noted that that the recent arrest of notorious human trafficking gangs leader, Usman Jajja, was a positive development. “The black business of human trafficking has earned bad name for Pakistan while a number of nationals lost their lives in boats capsized incidents near Italy and Morrocco which also created huge embarrassment for the country abroad.”
The premier emphasised that the country’s international image has taken a hit because of multiple human trafficking incidents.
The meeting was called by PM Shehbaz to appreciate the recent efforts by the FIA in apprehending those involved in human trafficking.
He stated that his government is firmly determined to completely eliminate the egregious business of human trafficking.
He instructed the relevant authorities to further increase their operations against this illegal practice, saying, “Institutions should work day and night to eradicate the heinous crime of human trafficking. Everyone must play their role in raising Pakistan’s name on the global stage.”
The premier awarded cash prizes worth Rs1 million each, along with shields, to those officers who were part of the operation against human trafficking gang.
It merits a mention that Jajja gang leader, Usman Jajja, is one of the prime characters responsible for the deaths of Pakistanis in the Greece boat accident last year.
