Webdesk: The bodies of retired Colonel Ishaq Qazi and his daughter, who were swept away along with their car in a storm water drain in a private housing society in Rawalpindi, were recovered today, on the third day of the rescue operation in Soan river.

According to rescue officials, both bodies were found in the Soan river. Earlier, the car’s bonnet and a door had been found under the Soan River bridge.

Rescue officials said the scope of the operation had been expanded, with rescue teams launching search efforts in Kahuta and Gujar Khan as well. More than a dozen personnel took part in the operation.

It is worth mentioning that the father and daughter were swept away by strong water currents along with their vehicle shortly after leaving their home at around 8:15AM. on the morning of July 22.

The two, who lived in Defence Housing Authority Phase 5, were travelling in a grey Honda when the incident occurred. According to a statement from Sihala police station, water had built up on a nearby road due to heavy rainfall. As Colonel Ishaq tried to restart the vehicle, the water’s flow grew stronger and carried both of them into a rainwater drain, according to media reports.

District Emergency Officer Sibghatullah confirmed that Colonel Ishaq’s body was recovered near the Soan River bridge. Rescue efforts are still ongoing to locate his daughter. Earlier the same day, he stated that parts of their car, including the bonnet and one door, had been discovered beneath the Soan River bridge.

The tragic incident was one of several on Tuesday morning when flash floods swept away four people, including two girls, in various locations across Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Each year, Pakistan faces monsoon rains between June and September. These downpours often lead to deadly flooding, landslides, and displacement, especially in low-lying or overcrowded areas with poor drainage systems.
