Educational Institutions closed amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan
On May 8, Pakistan’s military shot down 25 Israeli-made Harop drones (suicide drones) sent by India early in the morning, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The armed forces used both technical and weapon-based methods to take down the drones.
ISPR said India launched the drones in panic after Pakistan’s strong response to Indian airstrikes on May 6, which destroyed five Indian jets, several drones, and caused soldier casualties. The military said that it remains fully alert and ready to defend the country against any aggression.
In Lahore’s Walton Road area, three more Indian drones were shot down by Pakistani forces. Additionally, two drones were downed in Rawalpindi and one in Karachi.
It must be noted that Indian military is continuously targeting civilian population inside Pakistan while the Indian defence ministry claims it targeted Pakistan’s air defence systems.
The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government has shut down 25 schools located near the Line of Control (LoC) due to security concerns.
According to GB Education Minister Ghulam Shahzad Agha, the closures include seven schools in Ghanche, 12 in Astore, and six in Kharmang.
Speaking to the media, he said the schools have been closed indefinitely. A committee has been dispatched to assess the situation and compile a report on other schools in the region.
