WEBDESK : With Eid ul-Fitr 2025 approaching, tailors raise prices throughout Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The tailoring shops in twin cities have transformed into non-stop workstations, operating 24/7 to meet the overwhelming demand for stitched outfits.

Tailors have significantly raised their stitching rates, making Eid outfit preparations more expensive than ever. High-end tailors now charge Rs2,000 for a single shalwar kameez suit, while mid-tier and budget-friendly options aren’t far behind, demanding up to Rs1,800 per suit.

With soaring prices, many residents are now opting for home-based female tailors, who are stitching suits for Rs1,500—a slightly more affordable alternative. Meanwhile, professional tailors defend the hike, citing increased costs of buttons, thread, and interfacing fabric.

While talking to Tribune Zahid Mehmood, President of the Tailors Association said, “This is our peak season, and material costs have surged.Rs1,800 is a fair price considering the rising expenses.”

Despite their justifications, citizens are outraged. “If milk and groceries have price controls, why not tailoring?” questioned a frustrated citizen, Chaudhry Imran while talking to Tribune.

Every year, as Eid approaches, tailors raise their stitching prices during Ramadan. It has become a common trend that as soon as the holy month begins, tailoring costs start to surge, reaching their peak just before Eid.

Citizens complain about this annual price hike, but due to the high demand, tailors continue to charge as they please. As a result, many people are now turning to alternatives like home-based tailors or ready-made outfits to avoid these inflated costs.

Earlier a tailor in Kamalpur Musa village was killed for refusing to perform pre-Eid clothes stitching. The incident took place in the limits of Hazro police station.
